Alan Kocher was born 10/26/47 East St. Louis, IL to Earl and Rosa Kocher and was the youngest of five children
He graduated from Columbia, Illinois high school in 1965.
He was in the US Army and spent 3 yrs in Viet Nam. He was with the ASA.
He worked for the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroads as a special agent until 2002 when he retired.
He was preceded in death by Earl and Rosa Kocher, his siblings, Sue Kocher Rosmis, Tom Kocher, and Roger Kocher
He is survived by his wife Pam Carter Kocher, brother Don Kocher (Sharon), son Brad Alan Kocher (Jennifer), daughter Kimberly Ann Kocher, stepsons Charles Richard (Chip) Bailey, (Pat), and Michael Scott Bailey, granddaughter Carissa Nicole Bailey, grandsons Carter Alan Bailey and Colin Charles Bailey, and many nephews and nieces.
He loved woodworking and building furniture.
H also loved hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, and the mountains.
He loved his wife, his four children and grandchildren and mostly he loved the Lord.
He loved his dogs and all of Chip's herd of animals.
He was a real jokester and loved making people laugh especially when he would mostly make up stories and jokes to tell all of us, but especially the grandchildren. One of the best he ever told the grandkids was he would never eat blue M&M's because they would turn him into a Smurf. And he had so many more.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, December 3, at First United Methodist Church of Union County.
