Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. A.J. Wimpey, age 85, of Blairsville, who passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Wimpey was a native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, and was born on March 27, 1928 to his parents, the late Arch Jehew Wimpey, Sr. and the late Maranda Souther Wimpey. He was a member and deacon of Old Liberty Baptist Church. A.J. had been preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie Wimpey; and three sisters, Frankie Lance, Ada Plott, and Cornelia Seabolt; a brother, Everett Wimpey.
A.J. was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him; especially by his family: wife, Alwayne Vandiver Wimpey, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and John Seabolt, and daughter-in-law, Connie Wimpey, all of Blairsville; two grandsons: Nicholas and his wife Shelly Wimpey, and Matthew Wimpey; two great grandchildren: Taylor Wimpey and Ava Wimpey; many nieces and nephews, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in Old Liberty Baptist Church. The body will lie instate at the church starting at 1:30 on the day of the service. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Nicholas Wimpey, Matthew Wimpey, F.C. Collins, Jerry Collins, Jerry Dyer, and Brent England. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, December 31, 2013, with the family especially meeting with friends from 5 until 7 p.m.
